Top tips to make your wedding day stress free
You’ve booked the venue. You’ve got the dress sorted. Your bridesmaids are all set. The photographer has the date in their diary. The food and flowers are on order. The big day is fast approaching and while you know you have all the big-ticket items sorted you also know that there is going to be a lot going on in a short space of time: preparation, ceremony, photos, reception…are you forgetting something already? We know how stressful a wedding day can be, so with this year’s wedding season now well and truly upon us, we have put together our top tips to making it a stress-free day and one that you will remember for all the right reasons.
1. Keep the day itself simple
How do you do this? By getting as much of the planning and organising done beforehand. Leave the professionals’ jobs to the professionals. The photographer, wedding venue, flowers, and catering can be confirmed the week before. This gives you plenty of time to sort through any last-minute hiccups and dropping in on the reception venue in the morning will only stress you more as it will be in the process of being prepared and will likely look a mess. Not a good way to start your day! Trust the professionals to get their job done well and focus on yourself.
2. Put someone in charge of the day
This could be a wedding planner if you have one, a coordinator for the day, or a trusted friend. Give them a schedule for the day and let them worry about herding people around the venue or from the church to the reception. Let them know who you want for which photos so that they have people ready and waiting for you and the photographer rather than the other way around.
3. Hair and make-up trials
Don’t leave things to chance, even if you are planning to keep things really simple. Have a trial with your hairdresser beforehand so you know what your hair will look like and how long it takes to get ready. Do the same with your make-up artist, or if you are doing it yourself or having a friend do it give it a test run. Again, you know what it will look like, it gives you a chance to try different things out, and you know how long it should take on the day.
4. Your dress
Have one of your bridesmaids accompany you to your final dress fitting so that they know exactly how to help you into your dress. If you have a bustle they will also learn how to secure it so that you don’t have to worry about it on the dancefloor.
5. Eat and drink
Sounds obvious, but you would be surprised how many brides forget to eat and drink during the day. Make sure you are well hydrated (champagne counts too!) and ask your best friend to talk to the catering staff about preparing a plate of snacks for you while you are getting dressed and between the ceremony and reception. We don’t want the bride (and groom) feeling faint on their wedding day!
