Can I wear a tuxedo to get married in?
The short answer is yes.
There is so much information about brides and what they should wear on their special day. Sometimes the bridegroom can get overlooked. The day can seem daunting when all eyes are on the bride and her groom.
You want to wear something that pays tribute to your beautiful bride, something that makes the day a unique commemoration of your love and you want to look back at your wedding album in years to come and be confident that you made the right choice in what you wore as the bridegroom.
Should you play safe and opt for a suit?
All bridegrooms want to wear something on their wedding day, which makes them feel special and complements their bride. It’s one thing to wear a suit to work every day or to dress for a restaurant but the occasion of your wedding day calls for something different. How you dress is very dependent on the theme and style of your wedding. If you and your bride have decided on a formal, traditional wedding in a church, country house or boutique hotel, then you might wish to wear a tuxedo. If you have decided to get married on a beach, sand and lapping waves might not work so well with a tuxedo. But there are no hard and fast rules. It is your wedding and the final decision is down to you and your bride.
So what is the difference between a suit and a tuxedo?
The main difference between a suit and a tuxedo is satin.
Tuxedos have satin on the lapels, buttons and pocket lining of the jacket. There is also a satin strip down each trouser leg.
Tuxedos are traditionally worn with a bow tie and cummerbund (A cummerbund is a broad waist sash, often pleated and worn with tuxedos).
In contrast, suits have cloth covered or plastic buttons and plain trouser legs. Suits are frequently worn with a waistcoat, rather than a cummerbund. They are matched with a long tie and handkerchief in the breast pocket.
Tuxedos have become increasingly popular for weddings. It provides a rare opportunity to wear formal dress and has the added advantage of making you stand out from your wedding guests.
